BOATING ACTIVITIES.
No Cadet will be allowed to take charge of any boat, whether it be pulling, sailing of outboard Power, unless he or she has passed the required Boating Proficiencies:

Helmsman Proficient: This may be regarded as a Coxswain under Instruction. This Cadet may only take charge of a boat provided that he is under supervision of a qualified Coxswain or Unit Boats Officer.
Coxswain Proficient: This Cadet will be allowed to take charge of a boat within the proficiency he or she has earned, eg a Pulling Coxswain may not take charge of a Sailing or Outboard Power Boat etc.

CADET MIDSHIPMAN
Cadet Midshipman appointments are to be strictly controlled with not more than one per parade division plus the Parade Commander. The Qualifying criteria are recorded in the Corps Operating Instructions to which you must refer. The Rank of Cadet Midshipman does not replace the Unit Divisional Officer

PROFICIENCIES
Proficiencies contribute towards the outward development of the Cadet. There is no maximum requirement for the number of proficiencies a Cadet wishes to complete.

LOGBOOKS.
Each Cadet will be issued with a Water Bourne Activity Logbook. This Logbook must accurately record the actual time spent on the water, including the launch and recovery times, and will be inspected randomly by the Area Officers during their inspections. These Logbooks will be required for advancement. Should a Cadet lose his Logbook, he will have to replace it at his expense and will need to prove to the Instructor that he has completed the required "hours on the water".
