THE GUIDING PRINCIPLES AND CORE VALUES
[Those elements which address the governance of the Organisation and its conduct]

Guiding Principles

Justice
Encompassing the fair treatment of individuals, application of due process and impartial decision making. Judgements are made impartially, action taken is non-discriminatory; outcomes are equitable; and power and authority are applied for the common good.

Respect
People recognise and defend the rights of others; treat them with respect and do not abuse, exploit or discriminate against them.

Responsible Care
Based on the primary moral obligation of doing good rather than harm and the concept of responsible stewardship. People recognise their responsibilities towards others; contribute to the well being of others and to the common social good.

Core Values

The Core Values of the South African Sea Cadets embody Integrity - the willingness to do what is right even when no one is looking, it is the "moral compass", the inner voice of self-control;   Excellence - in all we do directs us to develop a sustained passion for continuous improvement and innovation in long term performance; and Service - to ensure that "professional duties" take precedence over personal desires, service before self.   All these are embodied in the Sea Cadet Compass of Life.
